In this interview with LUCKLANDIA, Kyle Wachtel, CMO of BetHog, reflects on the rise of crypto gaming. BetHog’s unique approach to social gaming will position it as a leading platform in the fast-growing sector.
Question: Hello, and thank you for participating in our Q&A! BetHog is a new cryptocurrency casino and sportsbook platform. What can you tell us about this new project?
Answer: We launched publicly in November of 2024 and we’re led by Nigel Eccles, the original CEO and founder of FanDuel. And we have an incredibly talented team, especially our developers. It has been a lot of fun to see how much our product has already improved in those short months. Since then we think our casino product already measures up well against most competitors. Crypto is the new frontier for gambling with a lot of innovation. We want to be at the forefront, pushing boundaries and offering a product that people are excited to tell their friends about!
Question: Which issues and trends would you say dominate crypto gaming? And are there any specific trends, markets, or technologies that you believe will drive change in 2025?
Answer: One of the major shortcomings with crypto gaming is that there’s often an incredible shortage of trust. Trust between players and brands. Trust between partners (whether it be affiliates, streamers, or otherwise) and brands. The lack of trust goes both ways too. And the absence of transparency and poor communication is largely to blame. As a team, we don’t want to hide behind the computer screen. We’ve purposely made our names and backgrounds public, and we pride ourselves in great transparency and communication. We want to be the adults in the room and be the brand that everyone can trust. That’ll be built over time by doing the right things: fast payouts, industry-leading response times for player support, provably fair games, and much more. We’d expect that the industry and our competition will begin to mature over time too.
Question: In your view, what sets BetHog crypto casino apart from other crypto casinos out there?
Answer: We think there are some casinos that are executing really well in certain aspects. But generally the industry is still in its infancy, especially if you set Stake aside. In addition to the “trust” aspect, we intend to execute well across the board and some of those additional items would be: a reliable product with a great experience for desktop and mobile, exclusive games with first-of-its-kind features (which we have some of today), and a loyalty program (our token included) that’s as rewarding as you’ll find anywhere else.
Question: If you had to describe BetHog crypto casino through the eyes of a casino player, what would stand out the most? And what do players usually appreciate most about your casino?
Answer: Many of the more recent crypto casinos are cookie cutter, their interfaces and games are simple and familiar, in some cases nearly identical. BetHog is colorful, lively, and distinct. Everything from our BetHog Originals to the animations when you claim your VIP Rewards has a little touch of character and fun. In addition to that, our team is accessible—you can find me, Nigel, and others on X or even on Telegram, and we’re excited to chat with our players.
Question: Every casino has its “wow” moment. What would you say is BetHog’s biggest breakthrough or proudest achievement so far?
Answer: In the past month or so, we had a lot of major releases—those included VIP Rewards, BetHog Originals (Blackjack, Plinko, and Keno), support for 14 languages, instant withdrawals, and Provably Fair tools. It’s incredible for us to reflect on our own, but it’s even more rewarding when many of our top players (who have played a lot on competitor products) suggest that we’re now already offering them the best experience they’ve had in crypto gambling. And it’s great to see our monthly increases in new depositors and total amount wagered is following suit with that.
Question: What kinds of games do you focus on?
Answer: When it comes to casino games, we have all the third-party favorites from Pragmatic, Evolution, Hacksaw, and others. But then in addition to that, we have a growing number of BetHog Originals—they’re our own spin on crash, dice, mines, and others. A more recent focus of ours has been to build better versions of more traditional games, blackjack and plinko included. When it comes to those, an aspect that is often overlooked in crypto is mobile optimization—just because our category isn’t approved for Apple’s App Store, that doesn’t mean our games (and product as a whole) shouldn’t be designed to offer the best mobile experience possible. Limbo is next on our radar for BetHog Originals and we’re open to recommendations!
Question: Can you tell if an online crypto casino is going to be a hit or not?
Answer: Personally, I really enjoyed my time at FanDuel and BetMGM. I’m proud of what those teams accomplished and wish them continued success. But there’s a reason that I decided to pivot to crypto gaming. While sports betting products in crypto lag behind at the moment, I truly believe that crypto casinos are already a much better experience than traditional online gaming. The crypto casino games are better and have more favorable RTP. Loyalty programs are more generous and engaging. As more people begin to transact with crypto, it’s difficult to not be optimistic about the future.
Question: What can we expect from BetHog in 2025? What are the main challenges and opportunities you see in the gaming industry for the new platform in the near future?
Answer: The biggest challenge for any new platform in the crypto industry is that there’s a lot of competition and there’s no easy path to market share. You need to build brick-by-brick and do the right things, which will pay off in time. We think we’re off to a good start, but there’s a lot more to come—at the top of our list is a new sportsbook product that will rival most in crypto and our BetHog token, which will allow our players (and partners) to share in BetHog’s success as we continue to grow!
